Fri Sep 10 2021

I'm very proud to announce that fully illustrated edition of my game "Paris Gondo - The Life-Saving Magic of Inventorying" is now available via Itch.io and DriveThruRPG. The gorgeous art is the work of Bodie Hartley.

As a reminder, the elevator pitch for this game is "What if... Marie Kondo but for murder hoboes?"

"The GonParis Method
This game is a tongue-in-cheek tribute to encumbrance rules and other tropes found in beloved dungeon-crawling games.
Players in this game embody Adventurers who, as a group called a Party, have reached the last level of a Dungeon and defeated the Boss who presided over it. Play starts as Adventurers discover Loot you create. The objects you decide your Adventurer carries home make up what you pack as their Final Inventory.
If Adventurers hold on to possessions that spark joy, they might feel invigorated and satisfied for the rest of their existence, or at least until their next adventure. But letting go of less emotionally charged but useful Belongings might prove to be a deadly mistake for the Party on their Journey Home."

It is a GM-less storytelling game for 3 to 6 players, designed to be played in a few hours without any preparation.

"How to Read This Book
The TRPG (Tabletalk Roleplaying Game) format popular in Japan inspired this book.
As with many of those games, the first half of this book is a Replay. It’s the transcript of a complete play session, edited for your enjoyment, to give you an overview of how the game works. If the idea of reading such a transcript does not spark joy, metaphorically throw it away, and jump to the GonParis Method section.
That second half of the book describes the rules and everything you need to play the game in step-by-step instructions. This game is a collaborative storytelling game. You can jump straight to the GonParis Method and follow its Six Steps without prior reading. However, it works better if one player facilitates your first session by reading the rules in advance.

The game includes all of the following:

Play-Aids and Card Decks

You will find in the Appendix links to all the Play-aids and Card Decks in both JPG and PDF formats that you will need to play around a table. Those are also included as a Miro board that you can copy to very easily play the game online.

"Step 2: The Party
One player reads the following quote aloud to initiate this step.
“Many things differentiate Adventurers.
“Of course, each hero has a different name, appearance, demeanor, and background.
“However, Paris Gondo teaches us that among the aspects that make each Adventurer unique, we should not overlook the belongings they are attached to.”
The next step in play is creating your Adventurers. Each player then introduces their Adventurer. Players then work together to describe how the Adventurers form a Party, a group of likeminded (or not so much) explorers.
Create Adventurers
As the basis for their Adventurer, each player chooses an Adventurer Class Card or rolls a d6 to randomly pick one (1 Barbarian, 2 Bard, 3 Cleric, 4 Fighter, 5 Roublard, 6 Wizard). No two players can have an Adventurer of the same Class.
Once you have your Class, take the Adventurer Card Deck for that Class. Each such deck has the Adventurer Class Card for that Class, along with that Adventurer’s Starting Inventory Cards. You decide details for your Adventurer, such as name, appearance, demeanor, motivation, and background. Describe the objects that make up your Starting Inventory, too, changing them in cosmetic (but not numerical) ways to suit you. Fill in your cards with the details you pick. You need only as much detail as will help you remember what you intended when you roleplay during the game."
